Le Neg Marron

from $35.00

Neg Marron, translated in english, ‘The Black Maroon’. Is a statue beautiful poised outside of Haiti’s White House. Maroon was a term given to runaway blacks and indiginous people that banded together and built free settlements away from their captors. The statue was commissioned by the Duvalier government to commemorate the slave revolt of 1804 that earned Haiti it’s freedom from the French. In this piece I reimagine what the modern ‘Neg Marron’ would look like. His fist, a sign of strength to fight; the conch shell, a sounding tool to alert the masses; and support from his nation to March forward to freedom.

This poster has a partly glossy, partly matte finish and it'll add a touch of sophistication to any room.
